Why open and operate a shop focusing on Mid-20th Century design? We wish we had a concrete reply to this often asked question. The shop was born out of an appreciation of the design, quality and diversity of items from this era as well as a lack of room in the garage and basement to store the items. The more we learned about the designers and the incredible styles of Mid Century Modern, the more passionate we became over the prospects of becoming merchants.
Our backgrounds are so varied: Jeff is a professional Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey trained clown and has toured with many a circus, as well as appearing in film, theatre, dance and on Broadway. Jeff has traveled the globe bringing his craft and laughter to thousands of people. Roger has been involved in the Hospitality Industry having attended Cornell University. Currently he has had the opportunity to pass on his knowledge as an instructor at The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Volunteering is important to us and we are currently involved in a variety of local community programs.
We combined our energies to create WHO NEW? Retro Mod Décor and opened in Pittsburgh’s 16:62 Design Zone (www.1662designzone.com) The doors opened in late 2002 and the rewards have been plentiful. When customers come in and smile with delight from the energy of the shop and the memories evoked of family, we view our objective as being a success. Whether you visit us in person or on line, it is our hope that you are engaged and create new memories for yourself and your family.
